Thermal De-coating Pre-treatment for Loose or Compacted Aluminum Scrap and Consequences for Salt-Flux Recycling

چکیده

Abstract In aluminum recycling, thermal de-coating pre-treatments remove moisture and organic contamination before re-melting. If the scrap is compacted into bales or briquettes treatment re-melting processes, less surface area exposed to oxidation in contact with air. However, compaction may also limit efficiency of process. this study, coated sheets were thermally de-coated at varied temperatures durations. Observations changes coating thickness, mass, color, composition revealed a maximum close 75% wt due remaining oxide residues. The relationship between was investigated by treating loose shreddings (chips) various densities. three methods: uniaxial, moderate-pressure torsion (MPT), MPT 450 °C (Hot MPT); calculated from mass loss. Subsequently, samples re-melted under salt-flux compared another set which without pre-treatment. results showed that significantly promotes coalescence chips uniaxially, up similar coalescences than initially uncoated samples. Thermally briquettes, more densely compacted, led de-coating, subsequently lower coalescences. analysis material residues did not affect composition, while prevented Mg loss for materials. Graphical

Thermodynamic Analysis for the Refining Ability of Salt Flux for Aluminum Recycling

The removability of impurities during the aluminum remelting process by oxidation was previously investigated by our research group. In the present work, alternative impurity removal with chlorination has been evaluated by thermodynamic analysis. For 43 different elements, equilibrium distribution ratios among metal, chloride flux and oxide slag phases in the aluminum remelting process were cal...

Recycling of Scrap Tires

As Rachel Louise Carson (1907-1964) successfully noted in her phrase “The human race is challenged more than ever before to demonstrate our mastery not over nature but of ourselves”, we are challenged to find ways to produce more energy, reduce our waste production while minimizing use of limited natural resources. Although recycling of materials has a history going back to the times of Plato B...

Scrap prices, waste and recycling policy

This study examines the effect of waste and recycling policy on scrap prices and the importance of scrap price feedbacks as a determinate of the costs of waste and recycling policy. The effects of a deposit/refund, advance disposal fee, and recycling subsidies on scrap prices are derived, and the direct and indirect channels of waste reduction are decomposed for the three instruments. Scrap pri...

Scrap Iron and Steel Recycling in Nigeria

Nigeria is blessed with abundant iron ore deposits of nearly 3 billion tonnes and other basic minerals for steel production including coal and limestone. Yet the Nigerian steel sector has collapsed principally due to shortage of raw materials particularly iron ore for the integrated steel plants and billets for the rolling mills. The privatization of the steel sector that was done in 2004-2005 ...
